The primary purpose of this position is to enhance the success of several award-winning terrestrial natural area restorations in Glenview, including: naturalized rights-of-way, North Navy Ditch, Baxter Property, the Techny Basin and Lot 16, and the banks of the North Branch of the Chicago River, through monitoring and controlling invasive plant species. Urban forestry duties include assisting in the Village’s permitting process. Assist with public outreach projects. Other similar duties and projects as assigned. The position reports directly to the Village’s Natural Resources Manager.

Essential functions of the position include:
Monitoring: Conduct daily inspections of Village trees, landscaped areas and natural area restorations. Identify invasive species problem areas and report them to the Natural Resources Manager.
Planning: Consult with Natural Resources Manager to flexibly prioritize areas and species most in need of control and to determine appropriate means of control.
Invasive Species Control: Implement invasive species control plans using such methods as spot spraying, wicking, or painting with appropriate herbicides, hand pulling, cutting, or girdling woody and herbaceous invasive plants. Among the invasive species likely to be controlled are teasel, sweet clover, bull and Canada thistles, purple loosestrife, and buckthorn.

The ideal candidate will have education or experience in ecological restoration and management, natural resources, environmental science, or other closely related field. Applicants must be at least 18 years of age and have a valid driver’s license.
