Metra platform work at The Glen of North Glenview station
Rehabilitation of the platform at the Glen of North Glenview train station began Thursday, April 5, 2018, by Metra, which maintains the platforms. Due to poor condition, the brick paver platforms are being replaced with stamped, colored asphalt.
The work began on the south end of the outbound platform, and the south crosswalk was taken out of service during this phase. Platform rehabilitation was then to move to the north end of the outbound platform, with the north crosswalk taken out of service during this phase. This process was then to be repeated on the inbound platform.
While the trackside depot doors will remain locked during the project, the station depot, vendor and south and west doors will remain open.
This project is expected to be completed in five months, in September 2018. Please use the in-service portion of the platforms and crosswalks and use caution near the work zones.
To coordinate with Metra's platform rehabilitation, the Village Board of Trustees authorized additional related train station work at The Glen of North Glenview station in the areas surrounding the main station building and warming station, which are maintained by the Village, and to the restrooms at the downtown Glenview station:
Sidewalk and walkway rehabilitation at The Glen of North Glenview station
Because the brick pavers have deteriorated and the concrete sidewalk has settled in some spots since the Glen station was constructed in 2001, potential safety concerns are being addressed.
All of the brick pavers surrounding the main station building and warming shelter and the existing concrete sidewalk between the landscape areas are being replaced with colored and stamped hot-mix asphalt, which will match the Metra platforms. The concrete sidewalk along the major walking paths will be removed and replaced with new ADA ramps to meet current accessibility requirements.
The Village Board of Trustees on May 1, 2018, amended a contract and awarded two other contracts for the asphalt and concrete work, at a total cost of $154,350.
This project was scheduled to start in mid-May 2018 and is expected to be completed in July 2018.
Bathroom work at the downtown Glenview station
Through an intergovernmental agreement with Metra approved May 15, 2018, the Village awarded a contract to Reinert Structures Inc. of Yorkville, Ill. for a total $71,280 to renovate the restroom facilities at the downtown Glenview train station, 1116 Depot Street, which was built in 1994. The work will bring the restrooms up to American with Disabilities Act (ADA) Standards for Accessibility.
The work is scheduled to begin June 25, 2018, and conclude on or about July 27, 2018. The restrooms will be closed for the improvements, and a temporary ADA-compliant restroom with a hand washing station will be available on site until the project is completed.
